[How To Deal With Parents
Parents are the most tricky thing when you start wearing makeup, because most of them will be concerned about the publics response. Some of them
will be thinking "Is my son going to get hurt because of this," or maybe even "Is my family going to be judged because of this."
For me to say that
there is no possibility of you being harmed for wearing makeup, that would be an outright lie. But there is also a possibility of you being harmed for walking a certain way,
for talking a certain way, or for looking at someone the wrong way. The thing is our society may be a lot more accepting than it was 50 years ago, hell even 20 years ago but
its not quite perfect yet. I personally think "If I am going to live my life, I am going to enjoy it. I am not going to worry about repercussions because of the way I
LOOK, thats just downright retarded." And to this date I have not been attacked for the way I look, I've had a few word exchanges, but words don't really hurt me
to much. So that is what I told my parents.
Yes, your family will probably be judged because of the way you look, but they are probably already being judged because you
are gay, or because your dad doesn't mow the lawn enough, or because two of your family members got into a loud argument. If your parents don't accept you for who you
are, that is their problem. I realize it may hurt a bit but they do love you no matter what they say.
So basically, in my opinion, explain to your parents why you want
to wear makeup, how much makeup you are going to be wearing, maybe compromise if they are worried. (ie don't wear eye-shadow hehe)
